As summer closes in and families head out of town, don't miss your opportunity to focus on the single adults in your church. Consider a weekend series about dating and relationships along with some special events like a sand volleyball tournament, a concert/coffeehouse gathering or a picnic right after the service. Since singles don't revolve around a school calendar, your attendance can actually increase rather than drop because you're attracting new singles.
Ed will often say that Fellowship Church could not be the church it is today without single adults. You cannot put a price tag on the energy and vitality they bring to the table. Ideally, churches should represent the demographics of their communities, and singles make up about 50% of the population in most U.S. metropolitan areas. Likewise, singles fill about 50% of the seats at Fellowship Church each weekend, and even more than that, they serve in hundreds of volunteer positions throughout the church.
And for the married people who are attending a singles series, here's how we promote it, "Over the next three weeks I'm talking about dating. Now some of you married people are thinking, ‘Well I can skip for the next few weeks!' No you can't, because you have children who need to know this stuff, you work with singles, and you have single neighbors. You need this to help you minister to the singles in your life."
With all the upcoming weddings in June, it might be the perfect time to launch I Don't: Singles and dig in to what not to do before you say, "I do." You can find that and other CreativePastors singles series here.
