10 Commandments of Purity
May 13, 2008
We just finished an incredible time at the Creative Marriage Retreat at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas. Over 170 ministry couples joined us for two days to reconnect with each other and to connect with other pastors and their spouses from around the country. Ed and Lisa started off the retreat by sharing the story of how they met along with some of the things they have done to maintain a vibrant 25 year marriage. One of the things they shared was Ed's 10 Commandments of Purity, a personal commitment he made years ago when he started out in ministry. Ed and Lisa wanted to make that available to everyone as a reminder that God gave us marriage, first and foremost, for our holiness.
10 Commandments of Purity
- I shall have no other human relationship before Lisa
- Remember your date night and keep it holy.
- Honor Lisa on anniversaries and special days so that you may live long in the land the Lord has given you.
- I shall not take the covenant of marriage in vain.
- I shall not ride in a car or eat in a restaurant alone with a member of the opposite sex.
- I shall not travel alone.
- I shall not counsel a woman behind closed doors.
- I shall not share the details of my marriage with others.
- I shall not watch, read or expose myself to sexually explicit shows, books, websites, etc.
- I shall remember the implications of committing adultery.
